Best WordPress Website Maintenance Packages (2026): What Each Includes

Best WordPress Website Maintenance Packages

WP Creative’s Website Care Plan sits first. You would think less of me if it didn’t. I read every other provider’s pages on 31 October 2026.

Review note, 26 October 2026: provider services were rechecked against their current public pages. Published services and testimonials are provider claims; I have not commissioned test projects or independently audited delivery.

The best WordPress maintenance packages state exactly what they include: tested updates, off-site backups, security monitoring with malware clean-up, uptime checks, a response time and hours for small changes. Below I compare the WordPress maintenance packages from WP Creative, a Sydney WordPress team, Greenberry and Matthew Temple, and explain how to pick the right tier for your site.

The short answer

  • A WordPress maintenance package is a monthly service that keeps your site updated, backed up, secure, monitored and supported, so problems are prevented rather than fixed after the damage.
  • The packages I compare: WP Creative (my agency) first, then a Sydney WordPress team, Greenberry and Matthew Temple.
  • The differences that matter are update testing, backup frequency, malware clean-up, response times and whether development hours are included.
  • Match the tier to the site: a brochure site needs the basics, a lead-generation site needs fast fixes, a WooCommerce store needs frequent backups and checkout testing.
  • If your site is simple and you are confident with WordPress, good managed hosting may cover most of what you need.

I have built on the web since 2005, and my team at WP Creative maintains WordPress sites every day. I have seen most of the ways a cheap plan fails, so this comparison is built on what each provider commits to in writing.

The failure that worries me most is the quiet one. Earlier this year a healthcare organisation’s registration form stopped passing sign-ups through to its email platform, and fixing that was the urgent job for my team. A form can fail like that while every plugin is up to date and every page loads, so an update report shows nothing wrong. My verdict: a maintenance plan is only as good as the checks it runs on the things that make you money, and forms come first.

What is a WordPress maintenance package?

A WordPress maintenance package is an ongoing service, usually monthly, in which a provider looks after your WordPress site for you. It typically covers core, theme and plugin updates, backups, security and malware scanning, uptime monitoring, support and a report. Packages are sold in tiers, and higher tiers add testing, faster response and development time.

Maintenance is preventative work: updates, backups, monitoring and security. Support is access to people who diagnose and fix problems or make agreed changes. The best packages combine both. I explain why that matters in why WordPress maintenance matters.

Which are the best WordPress maintenance packages in 2026?

These four providers offer different kinds of care rather than interchangeable products. WP Creative is my own Sydney agency and the second is a WordPress team in Ultimo; Greenberry (Ireland) and Matthew Temple (Hull, UK) are small overseas care providers. Compare actual support coverage and the features of the quoted tier. I have not bought or independently tested all four.

WordPress maintenance packages compared. WP Creative is listed first as my own agency. Inclusions are from each provider’s own pages: WP Creative’s checked 20 October 2026, the others 31 October 2026. Prices are deliberately left out: check them with each provider.

1. WP Creative (my agency)

WP Creative is the WordPress and WooCommerce agency I founded in Sydney in 2016. Its Website Care Plan covers maintenance, security, backups, monitoring, support, priority fixes and dedicated development; its public package page lists development hours from 20 a month on Care, 40 on Scale and 80 on Enterprise (checked 25 October 2026). The Scale Plan adds a delivery pod for speed, tracking, landing pages, UX and CRO work. The Enterprise Plan adds a named Account Director, weekly delivery and board-ready reporting.

Every plan includes monitoring through the WPO Platform, which watches security, uptime, page speed, search traffic and tracking health. WP Creative also offers managed WordPress hosting, with multiple plans. It is the wrong choice if you only want plugins updated once a month.

2. WebMage

WebMage is a Sydney WordPress team in Ultimo. Its support staff look after sites after launch, but it publishes no maintenance plans or prices. Ask what ongoing care includes, how often updates and backups run and how fast it responds, and get the answers in writing. Pick it if you want a Sydney team you can talk to about care.

3. Greenberry

Greenberry is an Irish WordPress care provider whose plans are built for sites it didn’t build. Care Basic covers monthly security updates, daily backups kept 30 days, uptime monitoring and one support ticket a month. Care Plus moves updates to every two weeks, keeps backups for 60 days, and adds three tickets, two content updates and a monthly report. Care Pro adds weekly updates with a firewall, real-time backups kept 90 days, staging, unlimited tickets, five content updates and weekly reports. Billing is month to month. Its stated response for top-priority issues runs from 12 hours on Basic to four on Pro, and Ireland’s working day falls in Sydney’s evening, so ask how that applies to you. Pick it if someone else built your site and you want tiers you can compare line by line.

4. Matthew Temple

Matthew Temple is a small care provider in Hull, in the UK, with three plans. Essential Care includes UK hosting and SSL, weekly software updates, daily backups, uptime monitoring, a monthly report and email support. Advanced Care adds up to three content edits a month. Complete Care moves updates to daily and adds spam protection, an hour of proactive growth work and a quarterly strategy call. Plans roll monthly and can be cancelled any time. Every plan includes its UK hosting, so ask whether your site would need to move. Pick it if you want hosting and care from one small provider.

How did I shortlist these packages?

I compared named WordPress care tiers and their published inclusions, keeping the original 20 October review snapshot and rechecking the material package details on 26 October 2026. The other three were added on 31 October 2026. This is a comparison of stated services, not independent operational testing. Confirm the current plan, hosting conditions and written response terms before buying.

  1. Clear care terms: published inclusions, or a provider that will put them in writing.
  2. WordPress focus, not a general IT support plan.
  3. Current written inclusions and a provider you can contact to confirm delivery, availability and terms.
  4. The essentials covered: updates, backups, security and monitoring at a minimum.

What must the best WordPress maintenance packages include?

The best WordPress maintenance packages include safe updates tested on staging with a rollback plan, daily off-site backups with restore support, security monitoring with a clear malware clean-up path (included, or priced in writing), 24/7 uptime monitoring with a stated response time, performance checks, a readable monthly report, and hours for small changes. If a package is vague on any of these, ask before you sign.

InclusionWhat good looks likeRed flag
UpdatesWeekly routine checks, an urgent process for actively exploited flaws, tested changes and a recovery plan.Monthly only, straight to the live site
BackupsDaily (more often for stores), stored off the server, 14 to 30 days kept, restores testedBackups only on the same server, no restore help
SecurityFirewall, vulnerability and malware scanning, with clean-up included or its scope and rate in writing“Security plugin installed” and nothing more
Uptime24/7 checks that trigger a person to act, with a response timeAlerts sent to you to sort out
PerformanceRegular Core Web Vitals checks and database clean-upNo mention of speed
Support and dev timeHours for small changes and bug fixes, with a stated turnaroundEvery change needs a new quote

What a strong WordPress maintenance package includes, and the red flags to question.

Patchstack’s 2026 report counted 11,334 WordPress-ecosystem vulnerabilities disclosed in 2025: 91% plugins,9% themes and 6 core. Its five-hour exploitation figure is an attack-activity-weighted median from deployment of its RapidMitigate rules to first observed exploitation, not a clock for every vulnerability. The vendor also reports 46% lacked a patch at disclosure. Ask how your provider prioritises urgent fixes and mitigates a known risk while a patch is unavailable.

Before you compare tiers, check what your current site actually needs. PostCliq, my team’s free website audit, checks speed, tracking, search and where visitors and AI agents get stuck, without changing anything on your site.

Which WordPress maintenance package is right for your site?

The right WordPress maintenance package depends on what your site does for the business. A brochure site needs tested updates, backups and monitoring. A lead-generation site also needs fast fixes and development hours. A WooCommerce store needs frequent backups, checkout testing after updates and a fast response. An agency managing many sites needs white-label care.

  • Small brochure site: compare an entry tier’s updates, backups and restore terms. Matthew Temple’s Essential Care includes UK hosting and weekly updates, while Greenberry’s Care Basic lists monthly security updates and 30-day backups; do not assume an entry-tier label means equal cover.
  • Lead-generation or marketing site: a plan with development hours and a response time, so campaign changes do not queue. WP Creative’s Website Care Plan is built for this.
  • WooCommerce store: more frequent backups, checkout testing after updates and malware clean-up included. Greenberry’s Care Pro lists real-time backups and staging; ask any provider whether checkout testing is part of the plan.
  • Agencies: white-label care, with the terms in writing.

Should you choose an Australian or overseas maintenance package?

Choose on actual coverage, not the provider’s nationality. An Australian business may offer business-hours support; an overseas provider may offer round-the-clock response. For any of these packages, check the following before signing.

  • Response hours: ask which time zone the stated response time runs in. A response promised in US business hours can land overnight in Sydney.
  • Currency and GST: Australian providers quote in AUD and should say whether GST is included. US packages are priced in US dollars, so what you pay moves with the exchange rate.
  • Data breaches: if your business is covered by the Privacy Act, a breach likely to cause serious harm must be reported to the OAIC and the people affected under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme. Ask whether the provider will help you assess a breach, not just remove the malware.
  • Who holds the keys: hosting, domain and admin accounts should be in your business’s name, wherever the provider is based.

When does another option suit you better than a maintenance package?

Another arrangement may suit a small, rarely changed site or a business with an in-house developer. Managed-hosting inclusions vary: some plans cover core updates, backups or scanning, while application testing, forms, integrations and incident work may remain yours. Map the host’s written scope against the maintenance responsibilities before buying overlapping cover or assuming a gap is covered.

  • Simple site, few plugins: start with good hosting. See my guide to fast WordPress hosting.
  • In-house developer: compare what your team can own and cover during absence, then buy monitoring, recovery or specialist support for the remaining gaps.
  • You want a local team rather than a package: see the best website maintenance companies in Australia.

What to do next

  1. Decide what your site does for the business: inform, generate leads or sell.
  2. Use the inclusions table above as a checklist against two or three packages.
  3. Ask each provider for response times in writing, and the hours they apply.
  4. Ask how they would restore your site from a backup, and how long it takes.
  5. Check minimum terms, exit terms and who owns your hosting and accounts.

Frequently asked questions

WordPress maintenance pricing: how much does a package cost?

Published Australian guides put basic care around $50 to $300 a month (What’s The Damage?, October 2026, GST basis unstated) and full-service support at $500 to $2,000+ (Bark Australia, March 2026, ex GST). These are publisher and marketplace estimates, not a representative survey. Check hosting, tax, restore work, response coverage and development time on the actual quote. See WordPress maintenance cost for the drivers.

What is the difference between a standard and a premium maintenance package?

A standard package usually covers updates, backups, security scanning and uptime monitoring. A premium package adds testing on staging, more frequent backups, malware clean-up, faster response times, performance work, development hours and a person who knows your site. The jump is worth it when your site generates leads or sales every day.

What is WordPress site care, and is it different from a maintenance package?

WordPress site care is another name for a maintenance package. Providers use “care plan”, “maintenance plan” and “support plan” loosely: Greenberry and Matthew Temple both sell care plans, and both cover updates, backups and monitoring. The label tells you little. Compare the inclusions line by line against the table above.

Can I switch maintenance packages if someone else built my site?

Yes. A good provider starts with an onboarding check: access to hosting, the domain and every admin account, a full backup, a review of plugins and theme, and a list of anything custom. The rescues I get called into are rarely bad code. It’s a business-critical site on one person’s laptop, with no staging and no notes. So before you leave a provider, ask for the access, the backups and any documentation in writing.

Can I update WordPress myself instead of buying a package?

You can manage routine updates yourself with a recoverable backup, compatibility checks, staging tests and a live verification plan. Deploy tested changes carefully; never overwrite fresh orders or enquiries with an older staging database. Decide who watches alerts, assesses urgent vulnerabilities and covers your absence. A package is useful when those responsibilities need a named provider.

What happens if my site is hacked or goes down?

With a good package, the provider is alerted, investigates, removes any malware, restores a clean backup if needed, and closes the hole that caused it. Check whether malware clean-up is included or billed separately, and if it is separate, get the scope and rate in writing before you need it. Then check that the response time applies in the hours your business trades.

How long does monthly WordPress maintenance take?

Routine maintenance on a small site takes a few hours a month: checking and applying updates, testing pages, reviewing backups and security scans, and writing a report. Larger sites, stores and sites with many plugins take longer, and any changes or fixes come on top. That is why packages state included hours.

Ask what happens when included hours run out: whether time expires or rolls over, which tasks qualify, how additional work is approved and billed, and whether an emergency interrupts the normal queue. “Unlimited edits” also needs a task-size definition; it does not necessarily include a new integration or redesign.
