WordPress consultant for teams who need a straight answer
Your WordPress site is slow, fragile or hard to update, and the advice is “rebuild it”.

Why work with me as your WordPress consultant?
That is often the most expensive answer, not the right one. My buyer-question analysis reflects this fix-or-rebuild concern in WP Creative’s own conversations; it is not a market survey.
I’m Nirmal Gyanwali, a WordPress consultant in Sydney, building on the web since 2005. If you run marketing for a B2B or professional services business in Sydney, this page is written for you; my team works with businesses like yours across Australia. Stabilise before you optimise. Fix the fragile back end before the facelift.
The consultation is free. Book a call and you’ll talk with me or my team. If there is work to do, my team at WP Creative scopes it and delivers it.

What does a WordPress consultant do?
A WordPress consultant helps you make the big decisions about your site before anyone writes code: fix or rebuild, which platform, which plugins, which host, which partner. Consulting names the decisions, options and trade-offs; development implements them. The same practitioner can do both, so agree the job rather than relying on a title. Here, that first conversation costs nothing.
Decisions a consultant should help with:
- Rebuild, or fix the site you have
- WordPress, Shopify, Webflow or headless
- What to cut from the plugin stack
- Hosting, security and who owns the accounts
- Taking over from a developer or agency who left
- What to do first with a limited budget

Should I fix the back end before a redesign?
Yes, almost always. A redesign on a fragile back end inherits every problem underneath it: slow templates, plugin conflicts, broken tracking. Fix speed, updates, access and tracking first, then judge what the design really needs. Often the site you have starts earning again, and the redesign becomes smaller, easier to justify and easier to measure.
I learned to think this way before I ran a company. At medical school I built a health portal as its designer and developer, then had to market it myself, then sold it to a pharmaceutical company. The design was never what made it sellable. What mattered was that it worked, was found and did a clear job. I judge every WordPress site the same way.
Fix first:
Whether you need a new website at all is its own decision, and I’ve answered it on my website redesign page.
- Speed. Every second of delay leaks the budget you spend sending people there.
- Updates and stability. Tested updates, so nothing breaks on a Friday night.
- Access. Hosting, domain and admin in your business’s name.
- Tracking. You can’t judge a redesign without a clean “before”.

Why does every WordPress update break something?
Usually because a theme, a page builder and a pile of plugins are all doing the same job and fighting over it. Change one, and another overrides it. The fix is rarely another plugin. It is a smaller stack: one tool per job, updates tested on a staging copy first, and someone who knows which pieces depend on which.
What to check first:
- How many plugins are active, and how many you actually use
- Whether more than one page builder or SEO plugin is installed
- Whether anyone tests updates before they reach the live site

What should I do when my developer leaves with the logins?
Recover and verify access before changing the site. Record who holds each account and use the registrar’s, host’s or vendor’s recovery process. Company details are evidence, not a guaranteed transfer right: an .au domain is a licence with eligibility and authority requirements under auDA’s rules. Disputed recovery may need legal advice. Add the new team with the least access needed once authority is established.
An abandoned build is rarely a code problem. It is an arrangement problem. My team was once called in after a developer walked away from a business’s half-built site. The first job wasn’t new code. It was unpicking what had already been done, then finishing what hadn’t. I was a solo developer myself once, so this is no knock on solo developers. It is what happens when a whole site rests on one person, engaged job by job, with no handover.
01
Domain first
It controls everything else, including email.
02
Hosting next
Then WordPress admin, analytics and Search Console.
03
Document what you find
Plugins, licences, integrations and who built what.
04
Then audit
Only once you own the accounts is it safe to change anything.
Should I hire a WordPress consultant or a developer?
Hire a consultant when you don’t yet know what to build, and a developer when you do. Define whether the engagement is for diagnosis and decisions, implementation, or both. Plenty of expensive WordPress projects were built perfectly to the wrong brief. Here, the free call does the deciding.
WordPress consultant
- Answers What, why and in what order
- Best when Rebuild or fix, platform, partner or budget is unclear
- Risk if skipped Building the wrong thing well
WordPress developer
- Answers How
- Best when The brief is clear and signed off
- Risk if skipped Slow or fragile delivery
How the free consultation works
No cost, no obligation. Any proposal has a reason behind every item, and you decide. If we’re not the right fit, we say so and point you somewhere better.
Use the call to make the next decision clear: the facts established, the unknowns, options considered and why a particular next step fits. If deeper diagnosis is needed, agree its scope and owner rather than treating a free introduction as an unlimited audit.
01
Book a call
Fill in the contact form and tell us what is frustrating you about the site. You’ll talk with me or my team.
02
We talk
We start with your marketing, not your plugins: where leads come from, what the site needs to do, who updates it and what’s been tried.
03
Under the bonnet
A sanitised copy of your Site Health report is enough. If more access is needed, agree a temporary least-privilege account and remove it afterwards; do not send passwords or secret keys in a report. WordPress has no read-only administrator role.
04
A straight answer
What is wrong, what it is costing you, what to do first and what can wait, plus a scoped WP Creative proposal if there is work.

WordPress on the agentic web
WordPress is where I learned my craft, and it still runs a large share of the web. But the question has changed. The agentic web is the stage of the internet in which AI agents, not just people, find, read, compare and act on websites on someone’s behalf. Your site now has to be readable and usable by software as well as people.
A well-built WordPress site can do that. A bloated one usually can’t. If AI is the bigger question for your business, see how I work as an AI consultant.
I still build and test AI agents and workflows every day on our WPO platform and internal tools. That work informs technical judgement; the client project still needs its own permissions, test cases and accountable release owner.

Who we work with, and who we don’t
Good fit
- Marketing teams whose WordPress site carries real revenue
- Founders who want a second opinion before a big spend
- Businesses inheriting a site from another agency
- Teams with in-house developers who need senior direction
- Anyone who wants honest advice
Not a fit
- A one-off small fix with no ongoing care
- Lowest-quote template sites
- Hourly help twice a year
- SEO or content campaigns (we refer these to trusted partners)
- Anyone who wants a yes-man
If you only need one small job done, we’ll point you to someone who does that well. That is better for both of us.
More questions about hiring a WordPress consultant
Is the WordPress consultation really free?
Yes. There is no fee for the call and no paid advisory package behind it. The consultation is how we work out whether my team can help. If there is work worth doing, WP Creative sends a scoped proposal and you decide. If there isn’t, you still leave with a straight answer.
What should the work cost if we go ahead?
For how to judge it, read what a website should cost and what WordPress developers charge in Australia; for WP Creative’s offer, see WP Creative.
Should I hire a solo developer instead?
For small jobs, often yes. One person can’t be your designer, developer, DevOps engineer and project manager, and when they are sick your site has no cover. Weigh that against the size of the job. More on choosing well in what to look for in a WordPress developer.
