SEO Sydney: an SEO consultant who fixes the website first
SEO in Sydney starts with a website Google and AI can read. I’m Nirmal Gyanwali, Founder and CEO of WP Creative, and I offer a free SEO consultation to identify likely website barriers, what needs further investigation and who should fix each part.

Why work with Nirmal Gyanwali on SEO Sydney?
Because the ground has moved. In early 2026, 68% of US Google searches ended without a click to anywhere, according to SparkToro. The clicks that are left go to sites that Google and AI assistants can reach, read and trust. If your website can’t do that, a consultant’s report won’t fix it.
I’ve built for the web since 2005 and founded WP Creative in Sydney in 2016. I set the direction and the standards; my team at WP Creative, in our Ultimo office and in Kathmandu, builds the technical foundation search depends on. We don’t sell monthly SEO packages. For ongoing SEO, content and links, I refer you to partners I trust.
I’m still a builder. I test AI agents and workflows every day on our WPO platform, on wpcreative.com.au and in client work. Those tests help me separate a useful workflow from a convincing demo. My team uses AI across the WPO framework to analyse search data and find issues quickly. Technical architecture comes first: templates, links and structured content that Google, AI assistants and agents can reach and read. We build in Claude Code with guardrails and a written project structure. WP Creative is working toward ISO 27001 certification. Your marketing team or SEO partner owns the strategy. My team owns the technical delivery.

What happens in a free SEO consultation?
Most SEO consultation services start with a sales deck. Mine starts with your site, before anyone sells you anything. My team reviews the technical architecture: speed, indexing, structure, duplicate pages, tracking and how AI assistants read you, using your Search Console data if you share it. On the call you get a plain-English view of what to fix first and who should fix it.
Sometimes the answer is “your site is fine, you need content and authority”. Then we say so. Your marketing team can write most of that content with AI, links come from PR and editorial coverage, and if you need help we introduce a partner from our network.

What does an SEO consultant in Sydney actually do?
An SEO consultant diagnoses why a site isn’t found and sets the plan. An SEO agency in Sydney usually runs the plan every month: content, links and reporting. An SEO specialist in Sydney usually goes deep on one part, often technical SEO. The label matters less than one question: who will actually change the website?
That question decides most results I see in Sydney. A consultant’s audit lists 40 fixes. Then it sits in a shared drive because nobody on the team can edit templates, redirects or schema. So here’s how I’d split it:
My team does the first two. For the third, I introduce you to someone good.
- Diagnosis. A consultant or specialist who shows a specific finding about your site before asking for a contract.
- The website work. A web team that can ship technical SEO fixes safely, tested on staging.
- Content and authority. An SEO agency or in-house lead, once the foundation is sound.

Why does the website come before the SEO?
Because search engines and AI assistants can only rank and quote what your website lets them reach and understand. A slow template, pages Google can’t crawl or several URLs fighting over one search will cap any strategy. Content and links built on that foundation leak value. Fix the architecture first, then let your marketing team, and partners if you need them, scale it.
The pattern I see most often is a site competing with itself. Clifton Lifestyle, a group of lifestyle resorts for over-55s, had grown one resort at a time. Our audit found 58 duplicate pages, with articles repeated across resort sections, so Clifton’s own pages fought each other in Google. My team collapsed them onto one canonical URL each with 68 redirects. Fixing that is a build job, not a monthly SEO report. It’s also where the quick wins usually are. Read the Clifton Lifestyle case study
When not to start with the website: if your pages are fast, indexed and every service has one clear page, the gap is content and authority. Spend there, with a specialist.

Should I pay for an SEO retainer, or fix the website first?
Fix the website first if it’s slow, fragile or hard to change, because a retainer spent on that site mostly buys reports. Pay for a retainer when the foundation is sound and the gap is content and authority. Here’s who does what:
If you already have an SEO agency, my team works alongside them. They set the content and campaigns; we build what their reports keep recommending. GMP Law ran exactly this split, with results below.
- Free SEO consultation: me or my team.
- Technical foundation (architecture, speed, structure, schema, migrations, tracking): WP Creative.
- Content: your marketing team. With AI, an in-house team can now do most of it.
- Links and authority: PR and editorial coverage, not link building.
- Extra help with SEO campaigns, PR or digital marketing: a partner from my close network who fits your market, B2B, ecommerce or local services, or your current agency.

What does local SEO in Sydney need?
Local SEO in Sydney is won on two fronts: the map pack and your own pages. In the Australian results for “SEO Sydney” on 21 October 2026 (an Ahrefs SERP check), the first thing Google showed was a map of three businesses, above any website. Results change with the searcher’s location, so yours may differ. Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. You can’t move your office closer to every searcher, but you can control how complete and well reviewed your Business Profile is, and your website shapes much of what sits under the map. Four things matter most:
A good local SEO consultant checks all four before suggesting content. My guide to local SEO ranking factors goes deeper.
- Google Business Profile. Right category, real photos, services listed, questions answered.
- Reviews. Asked for after every job, answered by a person.
- Consistent details. The same name, address and phone number on your site, profile and directories.
- One page per service and area you really serve. Parramatta, the North Shore or Western Sydney get a page only if you work there and have something true to say.

How do I choose an SEO expert in Sydney?
Choose someone who shows you what’s wrong on your own site before asking for a contract, can change the website or works with people who can, and reports AI visibility as well as rankings. Be wary of guarantees, lock-in and accounts held in their name. Sydney is crowded with SEO experts; scope separates them. Four tests:
The honest answer to “best SEO consultant in Sydney” is that best depends on your gap. If it’s the website, that’s what I built WP Creative for, and WP Creative is where the offer lives.
- Look for a specific finding about your site on the first call. Walk away if the first call is a package and a rate card.
- Look for someone who can ship fixes. Walk away if every recommendation lands back on your desk.
- Look for rankings and AI citations reported with the source named. Walk away if traffic charts never connect to enquiries.
- Look for Search Console, analytics and hosting in your name. Walk away if leaving means starting again.

Do I need to do anything different for AI search?
Mostly, no. Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode run on Google’s own index, and Google says they need no special optimisation. In AirOps’ April 2026 study of 50,553 ChatGPT responses, pages earlier in ChatGPT’s recorded retrieval results were cited more often. Its first retrieved position had a 58.4% citation rate against 14.2% at retrieval rank 10. Those are positions in that captured retrieval pipeline, not Google organic rankings or a forecast for your site.
My view, plainly: there are no AI search hacks. llms.txt is not a ranking lever: 97% of llms.txt files got zero requests in May 2026, across 137,210 domains (Ahrefs, 15 June 2026). If someone sells you a “GEO package” of files and prompt tricks, ask for evidence.
What works is dull and durable: a site people and intended crawlers can use, distinct buyer needs answered in useful pages, checkable facts and a business that is easy to verify. That’s also the start of an agent-ready website. For AI search in detail, read my AI SEO consultant page.

What SEO should be built into every website?
Anything search depends on that only your web team can change. This is the technical SEO for Sydney businesses that my team at WP Creative builds and fixes, before content and links go on top.
If your site runs on WordPress, my WordPress SEO consultant page goes deeper.
01
Core Web Vitals
Site speed measured on real templates and real phones, not a single lab score on the homepage.
02
Crawling and indexing
Google reaches your important pages, skips the junk, and every page has one clear canonical address.
03
Site architecture
One page per search intent and clear internal links, so your own pages stop competing with each other.
04
Structured data
Schema for your business, services, locations and people, stated in a form search engines and AI tools read.
05
Migrations and redirects
Redesign or replatform without throwing away the rankings and links your old site already earned.
06
Reliable tracking
Search Console, analytics and enquiry tracking set up in your name, so every report starts from numbers you trust.
Results from Sydney and national foundation work
Those numbers belong to those engagements. They are not a promise of rankings for your site.
SEO Sydney FAQs
Is the SEO consultation really free?
Yes. There’s no fee for the call or the review we do before it. If my team can help with the foundation, we scope and quote that work separately, and you decide whether it’s worth doing. If you need help with content, PR or campaigns, we point you to a partner from our network who does that every day.
How much does SEO cost in Sydney?
It depends on the gap, not the postcode. A site with technical problems needs a one-off build budget; a sound site competing in a crowded Sydney market needs ongoing content and links, which costs more over time. Ask any SEO company in Sydney to split its quote that way. The free consultation tells you which kind of spend your site needs.
Should I trust an SEO consultant in Sydney who guarantees page one?
No. Nobody controls Google, and AI answers move even faster. A guarantee usually means the phrases were chosen because nobody else wants them. What my team can commit to is the work: a fast, well-structured site that Google and AI tools can crawl and understand, and honest reporting on what moved.
I’ve paid for SEO in Sydney for a year with no results. What went wrong?
Usually one of two things. The keywords targeted aren’t what buyers search, or the website can’t support the strategy: slow, badly structured, no page to rank. We check the second on the call. If you’ve had a sudden drop, my Google algorithm update history shows whether it lines up with an update.
Do I need separate pages for each Sydney suburb?
Only where people search for it and you genuinely serve the area. Build one strong location template, then create pages for the suburbs and services people actually search, with something real to say on each. Fifty copy-paste suburb pages for Parramatta, Chatswood and the rest drag a site down, and Google’s spam policies count pages like that as doorway pages.
How long does SEO take to work?
Technical fixes can show in Search Console within weeks of Google recrawling the pages. Content and authority usually take months, longer in competitive Sydney searches. Anyone who gives you a date for page one is guessing. Ask instead what will change on the site in the first month, and how you’ll see it.
Who will I actually speak to?
Me or my team. My team at WP Creative handles most consultations and all of the delivery, from Sydney and Kathmandu, on Sydney business hours. That’s how every enquiry gets proper attention, and how the person who reviews your site is the person who can explain the fix.
